Amy’s Amazing Adventures

This is the last day of our honeymoon. It’s been a lot of fun and full of adventure.

We are both so thankful for jobs that allow us to enjoy life whenever we want to instead of being stuck at an office and only getting away for a few weeks a year. We’re both really lucky!

Tonight, we spent the evening taking pictures of the falls and Clifton Hill.

Some Niagara Falls activites we recommend are:

• Maid of the Mist
• Sky Wheel
• playing at the arcades, then finding kids to give our winnings to
• the falls at night
• Museums (especially ‘Ripley’s Believe it or Not’)
• topless sandals (http://www.originaltoplesssandals.com/index.html)

Things we don’t recommend are:

• Motel 6
• trying to save money by walking everywhere (you can park downtown all day for $5)
• ordering pop without knowing the price first

Now it’s time to go back to real life… which is pretty much the same as honeymoon life, but, in Lethbridge.

We have been in Niagara Falls for a couple of days and we love it!

There is so much to do and so many things to take pictures of!

Last night we went on the Skywheel.

It’s a 175 foot ferris wheel with 42 comfort controlled gondolas that give you a view of Niagara Lake, both the Horseshoe and American Falls and the surrounding area.

The Skylon Tower is pretty impressive at night.

So far it’s a great trip and Steve and I are having a lot of fun exploring!

So, my most recent adventure has been getting married!

Steve and I got married on 29 August 2009 in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia.

We flew from Calgary to Halifax in the midst of a Hurricane weekend. For about 3 days before our flight, I called Westjet twice a day asking if they knew anything more about the chance of the flight being cancelled because of Hurricane Bill. It wasn’t cancelled, so we got on the plane and we half expected to end up being re-routed to Toronto. Thankfully, we made it all the way to Halifax just ahead of the “hurricane”. All the flights in and out of the Halifax airport were cancelled just after ours landed! Hurricane Bill turned out to hardly be a storm at all.

The week passed fairly smoothly, and both fast and slow. The days went by quickly but the week seemed to take forever.

Our wedding was on a Saturday and by the middle of the week we discovered that there was supposed to be another hurricane that weekend. Hurricane Danny.

I was quite determined to have our pool-side reception in my parents back yard as planned. I decided it wasn’t going to rain on Saturday.

Saturday morning came and we set everything up outside and by 11:30am, when the clouds were getting darker and the sun wasn’t coming out as I had planned, I gave in and we moved everything to the church. (the wedding was at 2pm!)

It would have looked SO good outside in mom and dad’s back yard! There would have been lights along the fence and in the bushes and candles floating in the pool, flowers all over the place… Fortunately, I have the greatest friends and the chapel looked wonderful for the reception. Thanks Dana!

It was so fun to see everyone at the wedding. I usually don’t have any problems being in front of a crowd. I can give talks in front of a hundred people without even feeling nervous, but getting married in front of 50-ish people was kind of scary!

It’s so hard to get used to having a husband. But it’s a fun adjustment

After the wedding, we got some pictures with family and friends, then went to the beach with our amazingly talented photographers, Rachael McLean and Galen Burrows.

They got some great shots at the beach!

My younger sister, Ashley, made our wedding cake and I assembled the flowers for the top of it. It turned out absolutly perfect! It was like my dream wedding cake!

The whole day went perfectly despite the many changes to my carefully thought out plans and the downpour outside.

On Sunday, we had dinner at mom and dad’s with some family and friends and the tables were still set up in the yard, so we had a miniature version of my outdoor reception on Sunday. It was cute.

Steve and I and my sister, Ashley and her husband, Chad got up early Monday morning and left for Ontario. We will be in Brampton for a week, where we will visit with my aunt and uncle and cousins, eat Mr. Jerk (our traditional meal of jerked pork), and go to Canada’s Wonderland!

Then Ashley and Chad have to go home for work and Steve and I will spend a few days in Niagara Falls and then Ottawa before we fly back to Calgary.
